Getting in and settled

  1. Your door code arrives in your Airbnb messages before check-in. It works only for your stay.
  2. The entrance is down the path at the side of the house, marked 76B. The suite is yours alone.
  3. Gear goes in the Unload Here room under the stairs. Wet layers can go straight in the washer and dryer.
  4. Robes, sauna hats and towels are in your closet. Your Nordic Reset water bottle is yours to keep.
  5. Sauna sessions: book your private windows on our sauna booking page, using the name on your Airbnb reservation. Up to two 2 hour windows a day.
Your sauna

How to start it

Book your sauna window
The cedar sauna with its door open
  1. Head to the sauna at the start of your booked window, along the side path from your entrance.
  2. Power on. Press the power button on the control panel beside the door.
  3. Set it. Temperature to 90°C, timer to 60 minutes.
  4. Wait about 30 minutes. Go back inside, get your robe and hat on, fill your water bottle.
  5. When you are done, switch the panel off and close the sauna door.

The panel buttons can be finicky. Press firmly and hold for a second. If it will not cooperate, message us and we will walk you through it.

The sauna

Sisu SEE-soo · Finnish

Quiet grit. The resolve to sit with discomfort, and come out better for it.

The heater and stones inside the cedar sauna
  1. Heat, 10 to 20 minutes. Cedar heat up to 90°C. Ladle a little water on the stones for a wave of steam, with a few drops of the birch, eucalyptus or citrus scent if you like. Ladle only, no bottles. First time? Start with 10.
  2. Cold, 30 seconds to 2 minutes. A cold shower, a cold bath with ice from the freezer, or our favourite in winter: lie back in the snow.
  3. Rest, 15 to 20 minutes. Robe on, water bottle in hand, in the reading chair.
  4. Repeat two or three times.

Drink water before and after. Skip the sauna if you are pregnant, have a heart condition, or have been drinking alcohol. Never sauna alone if you feel unwell, and get out the moment you feel dizzy.

The bathroom

Kylpy KOOL-pu · Finnish

The bath. In Finland, the cold rinse completes the ritual.

The suite's tub and shower

After your sauna session, take the shower cold. Thirty seconds is real. Two minutes is Finnish.

Want it colder? Fill the tub with cold water and add the ice waiting in the freezer. Winter: step outside and lie back in the snow. It has been our favourite since we were kids.

Robes and towels are in your closet for the stay. Eucalyptus bath salts are under the sink if you would rather go warm tonight. Both count.

The kitchen

Fika FEE-ka · Swedish

A deliberate coffee pause. Permission to slow down, ideally with something sweet.

The Fika station: coffee machine and treat tin

Coffee and tea are included and waiting at the coffee bar, with mugs in the cupboard above. There is a welcome treat in the tin by the machine.

In Sweden, fika is never at your desk. Sit down, put the phone away, and actually taste it.

The reading nook

Ro roh · Danish, Norwegian

Stillness without effort.

The reading nook in the corner of the bedroom

The chair in the corner of the bedroom is the best seat in the house for the rest step. Robe on, a book, nothing to do.

The puzzle lives on its own board, so you can slide it aside for dinner. Finish it, or leave it a little further along for the next guest.

The guestbook is on the shelf. Leave a line, a tip for the next guest, or a drawing. We read every page.

The living room

Samvær SAHM-vair · Danish, Norwegian

Togetherness. Simply being in the same room.

Catan, cribbage, Scattergories and Hitster are in the bench. The TV knows all the apps, but the games have started more arguments and more laughing. Your call.

If you figure out how to win Catan without betraying someone, write it in the guestbook. Nobody has yet.

If you must

A desk for the work you brought

The point is to escape, but we get it. The rolling desk and chair live in the closet. Wheel them out by the window, answer what you have to, then roll them away and go find the water. Need a second screen? Ask us.

Leave your mark

Every guest leaves something for the next one.

  1. The guestbook is on the shelf in the suite. Your favourite trail, how long you lasted in the sauna, the Catan strategy that actually worked.
  2. Loved your stay? After checkout, Airbnb will send you a link to leave a review. A few honest words mean a lot to a small, local place like ours.
  3. Something not right? Message us in Airbnb while you are here, so we can fix it before you go.
